Naval Air Station Point Mugu is home to many ordnance testing programs and a test range that extends offshore to the Navy-owned San Nicolas Island. Due to the realignment actions taken in 2000, the base is now part of the Naval Base Ventura County that includes Naval Base Ventura County Port Hueneme as well as Point Mugu and San Nicolas Island. Naval Air Station Point Mugu is located in Ventura County, California. School districts near Point Mugu include Ventura County which offers 21 school districts, 3 community colleges, and a four year university. Each of the surrounding cities has its own elementary school: Camarillo, Oxnard, and Port Hueneme. All three are serviced by the same High School District. Elementary school children living n Point Mugu will attend the Ocean View School District schools. Those living in Camarillo will attend the Pleasant Valley School District schools, and those living in housing at Port Hueneme will attend the Hueneme School District. There are also many community colleges and universities available including the University of LaVerne and University of Phoenix. Housing is available on post at Point Mugu and Port Hueneme. Additional housing is available in Camarillo which is about 20 minutes from Point Mugu. Military personnel are asked to contact the Navy Family Housing Office for a list of both on-post and off-post available housing. Contact the office at 805-982-4321 to determine what BAH rates may apply to homes for rent or apartment units. On-post applicants will be placed on a waiting list based on number of bedrooms requested. Very few temporary lodging facilities are available at Point Mugu, but reservations can be made at the Navy Lodge and the Beach Motel which are operated by the Morale, Welfare & Recreation Office. For reservations, call the Beach Motel at 805-989-2627. The office is open 24 hours a day. The Navy Lodge can be reached at 805-985-2624. RV sites are also provided at Port Hueneme.
